GUIDE: How to Apply for Axis Bank Addon Credit Card?

If you ever wondered how you can apply for Axis Bank Addon Credit Card, you have come to the right place! Today, I will discuss how to do the impossible! Yeah, it is one of the hardest things to achieve in recent times.

What is Add-on Credit Card?

An Add-on Card is a secondary card provided to your direct family members. It is of the same variant as the primary card and shares the same features as the primary card. I have already written a detailed post on What is Addon Credit Card, what are its benefits. Check it out: Add-on Credit Cards Explained: Features, Benefits, How to Apply?

Why Axis Bank Add-on Credit Cards are Tricky to get?

For some unknown reasons, Axis Bank always discourages ‘Add-on Credit Cards’. Simply put, if you go ahead and ask Axis Bank, that you need an add-on credit card, they will simply deny, and say add-on credit cards are discontinued by Axis Bank. No matter where you ask, your bank branch, chat support, phone support, or email support, they will re-iterate the same thing!

Btw, for your information, I am attaching the Axis Bank Addon Credit Card Application Form here. You may fill it up and submit it in your nearest Axis Bank Branch and try to get it processed. Most likely it won’t work. However, no harm in trying right?

Why do Axis Bank deny Addon Cards?

I really don’t know. Maybe they don’t want to extend all the card benefits to additional members. For them, it is like issuing 2 credit cards at the price of 1. And they are extremely nonchalant about it.

So is there no way of getting an Axis Bank Addon Credit Card?

There is! Else, I would not be writing this post at all.

With inputs from different FinTalks community members, I came to the following two conclusions:

  1. Axis Bank will ONLY issue Add-on Credit Cards if you opt for Addon Card while applying for a fresh credit card.
  2. Once your Axis Bank Credit Card Application is Approved, or if you are using any Existing Axis Bank Credit Cards, you won’t be able to get any Add-on Credit Card for the same directly.

However, there are tricks and way-around across these that you can follow to get yourself an Addon Credit Card. If you are a fresh applicant, this is very easy for you. If you are an existing cardholder, this is going to be a long and tiresome process, however, you can still get it.

Just follow the steps below!

I have divided this post into 2 sub-posts so that you can easily understand it:

  1. Axis Add-on Credit Card for Fresh Applications. (including pre-approved offers)
  2. Axis Add-on Credit Card for Existing Cardholders.

Please click on the respective links to know the details.

That’s all. Hope you can get yourself an Axis Bank Addon Credit Card in 2022!

How to Apply for Axis Bank Add-on Credit Card for Fresh Applications?

Kindly refer to the Full Details of Axis Bank Add-on Credit Cards before reading this post. It contains answers to common questions that you SHOULD NOT miss.

If you haven’t applied for any Axis Bank Credit Cards, consider yourself lucky that you have found this post early on! You can get yourself an Addon Credit Card easily.

Typically, new Axis Bank Credit Cards can be applied via the following ways:

  1. You apply for a New Axis Bank Credit Card via Axis Bank Mobile App, or the Axis Bank website.
  2. You express your interest to apply for a New Axis Bank Credit Card from your bank branch, or call any Axis Bank agent for the same.

(In case you got a pre-approved offer for Axis Bank Credit Card via email and SMS, or Axis Bank Sales team is calling you regarding pre-approved offers, check the next heading, please!)

In case of (1), once you submit your Axis Bank Credit Card application either from the Axis bank website or the Axis Mobile App, you will receive a call from Axis Bank within 2 working days for scheduling an appointment for KYC documents pickup.

In case of (2), If you apply via Bank Branch or Agent, the Agent will come for documents pickup himself, or send someone else.

When the KYC guy visits your home for documents pickup, let him know that you will need an Axis Bank addon credit card. Remember, this is your ONLY chance to get it. You cannot get it afterward.

Nowadays, new Axis Bank credit card applications are sourced via online software. That application form has an option to opt for ‘Addon Credit Card’. Make sure the KYC guy ‘ticks’ that option.

He will ask for the Addon cardholder PAN Card and any Address Proof. Provide it.

You are done! In case your Credit Card gets approved, you will get Addon Card along with it.

Some KYC agents don’t agree to provide Addon Credit Card, or ask for weird documents like the Driving License of the Addon Cardholder, etc. In that case, just cancel the appointment, and request a re-appointment from Axis Bank support again.

Don’t fall on the trap that Axis Bank does not issue Credit Cards! Good Luck!

How to Apply for Axis Bank Addon Credit Card for Pre-approved Offers?

In case you have an existing Axis Bank account with high transactions, you might be eligible for a Pre-approved Axis Bank credit card. There may be two types of scenarios:

  1. You get a Preapproved Offer for Axis Bank Credit Card via promotional banner inside the App, or via email or SMS.
  2. You get a call from Axis Bank Sales Team notifying you about the Preapproved Offer for Axis Bank Credit Card.

Please remember, for pre-approved credit cards, you do not need any documents. So, if you apply online, you will get your credit card issued instantly without verifications, and you will miss out on the opportunity to get an Addon Card.

So, if you get any pre-approved Axis Bank Credit Card offers, don’t apply straight away. Reach out to your Axis Bank branch, and let them know that you have a pre-approved offer, and you wish to take an addon Credit Card also. They will do a regular application using their ‘Tablet’, and mark ‘Addon Card’ for ‘Yes’.

In case you receive calls from Axis Bank regarding a preapproved offer, just say you will only apply if you get an Addon Credit Card. In case they don’t entertain your request on call, visit your nearest Axis Bank branch.

Good Luck!

How to Apply for Axis Bank Addon Credit Card for existing Cardholders?

Kindly refer to the Full Details of Axis Bank Add-on Credit Cards before reading this post. It contains answers to common questions that you SHOULD NOT miss.

As you already know, if you already own an Axis Bank Credit Card, you cannot opt for an addon for the same card directly. So, to get an Addon Card, You have these 2 options only:

Option 1:

Close your existing Axis Bank Credit Card, wait for 6 months (cooldown period), and re-apply for the same Credit Card. This time, opt for an Addon Card, just like a Fresh Application. Guidelines Given Here.

But this is a hard decision since you have to live 6-7 months without any Axis Bank Credit Card, which is not so good. So, better opt for the next option, which is the best-case scenario for everyone.

Option 2:

To elaborate this, let us consider that you have an existing Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card, and you want to take an Add-on card for the same. (Just for example)

  1. Keep your existing Flipkart Axis Credit Card running. Apply for a New Axis Bank Credit Card separately as a Fresh Application. This time, opt for an Addon Card. Guidelines Given Here.
  2. After getting your new Axis Bank Credit Card with Addon Card, use it for 6 months minimum. You can use it for a longer period if you want to.
  3. If you get a lower Credit Limit in your new Axis Bank Credit Card, try to increase it (after 6 months) by submitting ITR/Salary Slips (if you have the capability). Increase Credit Limit Online.
  4. Once you have a good limit on your New Axis Bank Credit Card, you need to do this: ‘Close your old Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card’, and ‘Upgrade’ from your ‘New Axis Bank Credit Card’ to ‘Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card’. You DO NOT need to wait for 6 months for ‘card upgrades’. The cooldown period only applies for ‘Fresh Applications’. I have personally verified it since I opted for the same.
  5. At first Contact Axis Bank Customer Care and ask for closing your existing Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card. Cite any reason you want to. They will take 10-15 days to close it. Wait patiently.
  6. Once your existing Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card is closed, you will get a NOC email from Axis Bank that no dues are pending. This means your card membership is properly terminated.
  7. Now Call Axis Bank Customer Support and say you need to upgrade to ‘Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card’ from your existing Axis Bank Credit Card with ‘Shared Limit’.
  8. On that call, you should say 2 things:
  • You want to keep your existing Axis Bank Credit Card active.
  • Your existing Credit Card has an Addon Card, and you wish to upgrade the Addon Card also.

Under the ‘Credit Card Application Form’, they have an option: “Upgrade Add-on Credit Cards”. If they ‘check’ that option, your job is done. You will get both the Primary Card as well as the Addon Card.

Things to Note:

  1. Once you try to cancel your existing Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card, they will try to lure you with many benefits to make you not cancel the card membership. They may even try to offer you a different credit card. Don’t fall for it and ask them firmly to cancel your card.
  2. Have patience. If you have an existing credit card, the journey becomes tough as you need to wait 7-8 months to properly get an Addon Card with Fresh Application. However, in the long term, it is worth it.
  3. Closing your Credit Card, and Opening a New Credit Card, both of these may bring down your credit score temporarily. However, if you are in for many years’ benefits, then you may ignore them as these are all temporary downfalls. Eventually, your credit scores will improve as you keep paying your bills on time.
